Our History

From the start, we’ve focused on doing right by our customers and our community. We’ve stocked the freshest foods and kept prices low by making things ourselves and keeping a close eye on costs. Then we’ve passed the savings on to you.

Kwik Trip history timeline from 1960 to 1970
1983: Chain grew to 50 stores. Corporate offices expanded for the 3rd time. Distribution Center expanded for the 2nd time. 1986: Chain grew to 100 stores. Addition added on to the Dairy cooler and freezer.
1993: Kwik Trip became Kwik Star in Iowa. 1997: First retail car wash opened.
2000: The Zietlow family purchased the Hansen family's interest in Kwik Trip, Inc. 2003: Glazer Donuts were introduced and the hot food program rolled out to all of the 309 convenience stores.
2005: New open-air cases installed for fresh food offerings including salads, produce, and sandwiches. 2011: Stores, restaurants, and cafes were re-imaged.
2012: Opened the first Alternative Fuels and CNG Fueling Station in the nation. 2013: Chain grew to 400 stores. Opened Kwik Trip Center for Health. 2016: Chain grew to 500 stores throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa
2017: Purchased and remodeled over 30 new locations in Madison and Milwaukee. 2018: Kwik Rewards loyalty program launched to reward guests for visiting our stores. Also reached 1 million Kwik Rewards members.
2019: 700 Stores. Chain grew to 700 stores throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa. Fried chicken; introduced fresh Fried Chicken at retail stores. 2020: Take Home Meals; launched take home meals company-wide
